Heat transfer and energy storage performances of phase change materials encapsulated in honeycomb cells

Thermal energy storage devices are vital for reducing the inconsistency between supply and demand as well enhancing performance of solar thermal systems. The present study investigates melting process in metallic honeycombed heat exchangers filled with n-octadacane phase change material (PCM). Further, a parametric is conducted four different honeycomb cell sizes, fin thicknesses, angles inclinations computational domain. findings described form heated surface average temperature variation, melt fraction PCM, stored. Results show that structure considerably improves transfer PCM. it was observed size thickness greatly influence variation front temperature, fraction, rate, whereas inclination angle doesn't have significant effect when less than 0.01 m. From study, also domain horizontal without cells, pure conduction PCM results much higher which reduced presence cells.
